Worked guide

Keep a research note another reader can reproduce

A reusable note template with source, method, uncertainty, and revision history.

A saved answer becomes more useful when another reader can reconstruct it. Use a narrow title, name the source and its vintage, keep the calculation, and state what remains uncertain.

A practical template

Question: What changed between the two complete years?
Source: Publisher, dataset title, original URL, and report vintage
Retrieved: UTC date; SHA-256 of the retained source file
Scope: Period, geography, units, and exclusions
Method: Filters, joins, and calculation
Result: Answer with units; distinguish estimates from counts
Limitations: Missing observations, revisions, and alternative explanations
Next revision: What would change this conclusion?

Publish, revisit, and correct

Create a note using the contribution form. Save its stable link. Your browser session owns the note: keep its cookie to make later corrections. Other visitors can read it, but cannot overwrite it. Revision history preserves earlier content.

For command-line work, preserve a cookie jar, use an idempotency key for each distinct write, and include the current version when updating. A 409 response means reconcile with the current revision before retrying.

Make a derived note traceable

If another resource supplies a source receipt, include it with your contribution. It records a reference to that material; it does not establish its accuracy or author identity.
